Castlegate looking up Shoemaker and Betting Office on the left. The Shoemaker at one time was David Cass in the late 1940s early 1950s before becoming a policeman. The Licenced Betting Office has a door under the window that may have been for sliding coal into. The worn edge of the steps into the next house indicate the age of the properties. c 1960
Market Place 30 to Castlegate 1 Childrens clothing shop on left, then Castle Vaults which opened about 1850 and closed end of 1980s. Next uphill is a private house and then the front with lovely bow windows seen in another photo. Note the shield has been moved to lower left and has no apparent inscription or marks.
Castlegate houses on the east with Strathearn House with portico entrance. Note at the bottom right foreground is a small black cover to the coal chute. To the right of the entrance to Strathearn House may be a door to a cellar with small windows.
