Market Place 38 beside Percy House is an alley to Brewery Lane going through the yard and under the arch of the Spread Eagle pub closed in 1925 demolished 1970. The name invites speculation about a session in the pub resulting in being “spread-eagled”?! Note the hand-cart in the cobbled yard and exterior stairs. Why use up the floor space inside a house for a staircase when it can be outside.
