Horsman Street some building now flats, at the end is Sanderson haulage. The street is named after a former MP of Cockermouth. Edward Horsman (1807-1876) was a moderate Liberal MP for Cockermouth who unsuccessfully contested Cockermouth in 1835, but was successful at the following election on 15 February 1836, and continued to represent the constituency till 1 July 1852. He was a Scottish lawyer, Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, Secretary of State for Ireland. After he was defeated in 1852, he was returned unopposed for Stroud in 1853. The Cockermouth constituency was abolished in 1918 and became part of the Workington Constituency.
